A Rose, A Memory and a Reminder to Find the Good

Helena Dowsland • 17 August 2026

A personal reflection on the customers who shape our lives and the lessons that stay with us.

Sometimes the smallest things can bring back the biggest memories.

Recently, while gardening, I noticed a rose flowering in the garden. It is a rose that means far more to me than simply being another plant. It was given to me by a very dear customer, one of my original customers from when I first started HP Cleaning & Support Work back in 2020.

Sadly, she is no longer with us, but the lessons she shared have stayed with me.

More Than a Customer

When you run a cleaning and support business, you meet many different people. Some remain customers, while others become an important part of your life.

She was one of those people.

I looked up to her and valued the wisdom she shared with me. Her kind words taught me many life lessons, and I still carry those lessons with me today.

She taught me a lot about finding the good in everyone and every situation. It is something that has stayed in my thoughts and influenced how I approach both my work and everyday life.

A Rose With a Special Meaning

The rose she gave me has moved house with us, although it has not taken particularly kindly to the change.

That made seeing it flower again even more meaningful.

It was a simple reminder of the person who gave it to me and the time we were fortunate enough to share. Although people may no longer be physically present in our lives, the things they teach us can remain with us for years.

A conversation, a piece of advice or even a rose in the garden can bring those memories back when we least expect it.

The People Behind HP Cleaning

Starting HP Cleaning & Support Work in 2020 was about building a business, but the years since have also been about the people I have had the privilege to meet along the way.

I will always be grateful for the customers who have supported the business, particularly those who were there during the early days.

This rose will continue to be a reminder of one very special customer, the lessons she taught me and the importance of looking for the good in the people and situations around us.

Some customers leave a lasting impression that goes far beyond the work you do for them. This is one I will carry with me always.
